Mabel is a quick, easy, and versatile skirt pattern. It is also your perfect introduction to sewing with knits! Because it uses heavy knit fabrics, you get all the benefits of sewing with stable wovens, along with the speed and comfort of sewing with knits. For the beginner, that translates into sure-fire results - you will successfully sew this skirt in one afternoon. And if you're more experienced, you'll take advantage of how fast this garment comes together and whip up several skirts in a day.
Because Mabel can be sewn up in three different styles, it’s a great wardrobe staple. Versions 1 and 2 are mid-thigh length skirts, ideal for warm spring and summer days or worn with a sweater and leggings in the winter. Version 2 is embellished with a faux placket and center buttons. Version 3 is an above-the-knee length pencil skirt with seam details and a kick pleat. All three versions are pull-on style with a mid-rise, contoured waistband.

Tilly and the Buttons
Arielle is an asymmetric pencil or mini skirt with an adorable button opening to one side. Long darts and a high waistline create a flattering, figure-hugging shape. The unlined version is an ideal project for confident beginners, or take your sewing prowess up a notch by adding the optional luxury lining.
This easy-to-use sewing pattern will take you through the steps to making the Arielle skirt, with jargon-busting instructions and photos showing you how to sew each part.
SKILL LEVEL - Confident Beginners
FABRIC SUGGESTIONS - Medium-weight woven fabrics such as stretch cotton, sateen, denim, gabardine, brocade, suiting, pincord, lighter weight canvas or wools. Choose something with enough body to hold the shape, but not too thick or the darts will be bulky. A touch of stretch would be a bonus.
Tilly and the Buttons
Sew your own Dominique skirts - the ideal project for a novice stitcher, or a satisfying one hour make for more experienced dressmakers.
We designed the straight skirt to be super simple for beginners. It features straight seams to practise your stitching and an elasticated waistband for an easy fit - with no fiddly zips or buttonholes! Choose from knee length or above-the-knee hemline, and add the optional turnover top patch pockets.
The flared version of the skirt is slightly more challenging, as it's cut on the bias and we suggest a drapier fabric for a flowing silhouette. Choose from knee length or on-trend midi hemline, with optional turnover top pockets, belt loops and elegant sash.
Like all Tilly and the Buttons sewing patterns, Dominique includes instructions in plain English, helpful sewing tips, and colour photos showing you each step – making it easy for you to create gorgeous clothes you can be proud to say you made yourself.
SKILL LEVEL - Beginners
FABRIC SUGGESTIONS - Straight skirt – Medium-weight woven fabrics, such as cotton, chambray, double gauze, linen, lighter weight denim and needlecord. Flared skirt – Light- to medium-weight drapey fabrics, such as cotton lawn, chambray, viscose (rayon), silk or polyester crêpe de chine. Avoid anything slippery if you’re a beginner!
