Frequently Asked Question

Is the book Dear Jane by Brenda Papadakis required to make this quilt?

Yes. It will show you how the blocks are laid out. We highly recommend purchasing your book from Amazon before you start the quilt.

What size is the finished quilt?

With the scalloped borders it finishes at approx 85" x 85" (216cm x 216cm)

What size are the finished blocks?

The blocks in row A through to M are 4.5" x 4.5" (11.43cm x 11.43cm)

What is included in each paper piece pack?

Each monthly pack for Dear Jane contains a modification booklet, all the pre-cut paper pieces for that section, lattices & corner stones.

What is the modification booklet?

The blocks in Dear Jane can be quite complex. With the blessing of Brenda Papadakis, we simplified some of the blocks while keeping as true to the style of Jane Stickle as possible. In many of the cases this meant removing the second border around the block to enlarge the pieces. These changes were necessary to allow the quilt to be English Paper Pieced and have not changed the quality or style of the quilt. The booklet also contains tips, tricks, and letters from Jess at Paper Pieces who assembled our version of the quilt. All the little extras in this Modification Booklet will aid you in your own journey to create your personal Dear Jane quilt!

How much fabric is needed for a Dear Jane quilt?

While we can give you approximations we do not have a definitive answer. With so many different ways you could personalize a Dear Jane quilt, we can only only give broad recommendations. Factors such as color selection and choosing to fussy cut or not will affect the amount of fabric you will require for this project. Please use these amounts as guidelines and not fixed amounts! You may require more or less fabric.

For a version resembling the modern remake Jess suggests:

Around 25 Fat quarters and some yardage for various backgrounds and piecing. Jess took from her Tula Pink stash. Pre-cuts would also be great for this project.

2-1/4 yards for the lattice strips

1/3 yard for the corner stones

7-3/4 to 8 yards for the backing

Are the Dear Jane acrylic fabric cutting templates necessary?

These acrylic templates are not required, but they are especially helpful for the production of each block. It is a worthwhile investment -- particularly if you are fussy cutting your fabric. Using the acrylic fabric cutting templates allows you to get the perfect seam allowance for each piece.

You can find the acrylic template sets here to order.
